How to Setup Ourlook Express for MilNet Email
Setting Up Outlook Express for use with MilNet Mail
Please follow this instructions to set up you new email account in Outlook Express.
Please note that the images below are taken from Outlook Express version 6, and may be slightly different to what you will see on your screen if you are using a different version of Outlook.
If you are familiar with setting up outlook, the information you need is our mail server is called tmail.milnet.uk.net, and this is the same for incopming (POP3) and outgoping (SMTP) mail. When sending mail (SMTP) you must log onto the sever using your POP3 email address and password.
If you are inexperienced in setting up Outlook, you may find it useful to print these pages, before setting up your Outlook programme.
It is assumed that all setting in your copy of Oultlook are set to their delault values, before starting.
Step 1 - Left click on "Tools" in the main menu bar of Outlook; a dropdown menu will appear:
Step 2 - Left click on the "Accounts" option near the bottom of the drop down menu, and after the new window appear, click on the "Add" button near the top right hand corner of this new window, then click on the "Mail" option, as shown below
Step 3 - You have now started the "Internet Connection Wizard", ICW, which will guide you through the next few steps. In the first ICW window type in you name, this is the name that will appear in the "from" address on emails that you send.
Step 4 - In the next ICW window, type in the names of your incoming and outgoing servers. Ensure that the top selection box is set to "POP3". Type in the middle box the name of the Incoming server, for MilNet users this is always "tmail.milnet.uk.net" as shown. Next type in the name of the outgoing server. Press the "Next" button to show the next ICW window.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE OUTGOING SERVER.
If you are using the MilNet 0845 number to connect to the internet, or if you have recently set up a new email address (still in the trial period), or if you are using one of our paid for services, then you should set up the Outgoing Server to tmail.milnet.uk.net.
If you are using your own ISP (eg Broad Band) outgoing mail server, you should set the Out Going Mailserver to the appropriate name.

Step 5 - Type your email address into the "Account name" box. (Note that the part of your email address before the @ sign, may already be present in the box, in this case simply type in the part of your email address after (and including) the @ sign).
Type in your password into the box labelled "Password". (Note this is the password you choose when signing up for your email account). Ensuring that the "Remember Password" box is checked, will mean that you wont have to type in your password every time Outlook checks for new mail.
Press the "Next" button to show the next ICW window.

Step - 6. The ICW set up process is now complete, and you should press the "Finish" button on the next window, which will close the ICW window.

Step 7. If you are using the Milnet mailsever as your OUTGOING, mail server, you must complete the next step (If you are using another out going mailserver, eg the one provided by you own Broadband ISP, you do not have to com-lete this step.
Open the Internet Accounts window, by following the instructions in Step 1 above. Select the "Mail" tab, as shown below, and click once on the email account you have just set up. Then press the "Properties" button, once.

Step 8 - In the resultant new window, click on the "Servers" tab.

Step 9 - In the resultant Servers window, ensure the "My server requires Password Authentication" box is CHECKED.

Step 10 - Click the "Setting" button to the right of the "My server requires authentication" checkbox, and ensure it looks like the picture below, then click the OK button.

Step 11 - Now click the "Close" button on the Internet Accounts window, to make is dissappear.

Step 12 - You have now successfully set up you copy of Outlook Express, and should be ready to send and receive Emails by pressing the "Send/Recv" button as shown below. If you need furthe help with using Outlook, Press the "Help" button in the Outlook window.
